Glass Wall Sculpture and

Joe

Joe Drury uses found and saved glass to create his one of a kind glass sculptures. The glass is placed in his ceramic kiln and heated to a plastic state in and over molds. This process fuses and reforms the glass into new and wonderful shapes inspired by his years on and near the sea. Powdered glass enamels are fused to the glass sculpture to create brilliant color fields and patterns. The glass is then carefully cooled and annealed to remove all stress. This process takes at least 24 hours per sculpture.

ENQUIRER STAFF REPORT

"Glass swooped, shaped and becomes artwork"

Glass sculpture is Joseph Drury's  specialty. He has a studio at PendletoArt Center.

"You don't have to be a rocket scientist to enjoy Joseph Drury's work - but just for the record, rocket scientists do like it. Drury, an artist from Fort Thomas, recently had one of his pieces of glass artwork bought by a NASA astrophysicist to be displayed at NASA's Ames Research Center in Moffett Field, Calif.

The work, called "Dark Matter," will be on display at the center where scientists research dark matter. That is matter that does not emit or reflect enough electromagnetic radiation to be detected directly but whose presence might be inferred from its gravitational effects on visible matter.

As with many of his works, Drury used recycled glass to make the sculpture.
"I think we should all be working toward a 100 percent environmentally sustainable world in our art and in our lives," Drury said.

Drury creates many of his designs at his Fort Thomas home studio and completes his work in his kiln at the Pendleton Art Center in Cincinnati.

Joe Drury offers instruction workshops in kiln forming and glass on glass enameling at his Pendleton Art Center Studio 512.

He also offers workshops at The W.W. Carpenter Enamel Foundation Workshops 650 Colfax Avenue Bellevue, KY 41073 (859) 291-3800

512 studio workshop sessions included a wedding party group creating 28 "glass on glass" enamel centerpiece bowls for their Cincinnati Freedom Center Wedding.

His art is currently showing at the 5th Street Gallery at 55 W. Fifth St. in Cincinnati where he is a member artist.

Two large glass sculptures 'Seascape I, and Seascape II' by Pendleton Art Center Artist Joe Drury were recently purchased at the 5th street artists cooperative Gallery by The Woodrow W. Carpenter Enameling Foundation Museum for their permanent collection.

Creating Carbon Neutral Glass Art:
DruryDesignArt and Planktos Inc. Partner to Create Carbon Neutral Glass Art.

Joe Drury, DruryDesignArt.com and Planktos Inc. Announced on Earth Day at The Chicago Green Festival an agreement in principle to partner allowing an offset of carbon emissions generated in the production of DruryDesignArt Kiln Formed Recycled Glass Artwork.

A percentage of DruryDesignArt sales revenues will be used to purchase carbon credit offsets. The making DruryDesignArt Glasswork will now be carbon neutral. DruryDesignArt challenges CO2 producing Art enterprises and others to 'save the planet one artwork at a time'.

Planktos Inc. pioneers new technologies to promote controlled ocean plankton blooms enlisting plankton to bind and sequester CO2 as the plankton die and sink to the ocean floor. This natural process has declined by 30% in recent years. Planktos Inc. technologies vessels sail out and stimulate the re population of plankton by re seeding the oceans with naturally occurring iron dust that is no longer reaching the seas on the wind and by other natural means.

DruryDesignArt uses recycled glass from many sources to create glass art sculpture.
'I think we should all be working toward a 100 % environmentally sustainable world with our art and our lives,' Drury said. For more information Contact Joe Drury at JoeDrury@msn.com, 859-240-0046 and Julia Clark at Planktos.com Julia.Clark@Planktos.com 650-638-1975  ext 215
